At Neubond, we are transforming neurorehabilitation with state-of-the-art therapy that helps individuals regain movement after brain injuries, such as strokes. Our approach is based in closed-loop stimulation that detects brain activity related to movement to stimulate the corresponding muscles driving physical movement. This method strengths the brain-muscle neural connections enabling functional recovery, a process known as neuroplasticity.
In a laboratory setting, this method has led to significant movement improvements (FMA score +6.5 improvement in 24 subacute patients). While highly effective, this method was confined to research environments, limiting accessibility for real-world use.
Neubond has developed a wearable device that seamlessly brings this therapy to patients in everyday settings. Instead of relying on direct brain activity, our device detects volitional intention through muscle activation. Using volitional-induced paired associative stimulation (VIPAS), it senses when a patient initiates movement and delivers precise closed-loop stimulation to reinforce it. This real-time feedback strengthens the connection between intention and execution, enhancing motor relearning and accelerating recovery.
